All of Him, How Much of You?

Have you every heard anyone pray, "Lord, I want more of you"?

I have. (In fact, I may have even prayed it myself!). It sounds pretty spiritual, doesn't it? But really, it's not right thinking. After all...how much more of Him is there to get?

Think about it. When Jesus came to live in of us, He brought everything with Him. He is the fullnes of the Godhead (Col. 2:9), and everything He is, everything He has, everything He's done came to live in us when we received Him as Lord.

Not only that, but He promised to never leave (Heb. 13:5b).

It's Up to Us

I know what we mean when we say we want "more of God." We mean we want to know Him in a more intimate way. We want to experience more of His presence, His power, and His influence in our lives.

Which is good.  Even the Apostle Paul prayed to know God more (Phil. 3:10).

But I think it's important to recognize that knowing Him more is up to us, not Him!  He's already expressed His full commitment to us (Rom. 5:8, 1 John 4:9, 10).  He already paid the price and made His home is us.

So the question is not whether or not I can have more of Him. The question is: "How much of me does He have?"

Who Moved?

I think it's a question we must ask ourselves regularly. Are we giving our all to Jesus like He's given His all for us? (1 Cor. 6:19, 20).

Because we know that if we're not "feeling" the fullness of His power or promises, it's not because of Him. His promises are all true -- He is fully committed.

It's the fully committed heart that is full of joy, full of assurance. Are we as committed to Him as He is to us?

I heard a story once about a young couple, who, when they were dating, would sit real close to each other on the bench seat of the young man's pick-up. People driving behind them thought it was one person!

But after they'd been married a few years, the wife sat over next to the door when they drove.

One day she said, "Honey, I just don't feel like we're as close as we used to be!" The husband looked at the steering wheel, then looked over at her and answered: "Who moved?"

If you and I aren't feeling as close to God, or we're crying out for "more of Him" I think we have to ask that question -- who moved?

It wasn't Him. You can reset assured that Your Father is just as much in love with you today as He's always been. Just as firm in His committment to you  And He's just as available to you as He's been since He paid the price for you (Heb. 4:16, James 4:8).

You have all of Him. How much does He have of you?
