Use Your Power!

As I sit down to write you today, I have that old song running through my head: “We’ve got the power, in the Name of Jesus; we’ve got the power in the Name of the Lord!”  I love that song!

Don’t you love to hear about the power and authority we have in Jesus’ Name?  But I guess the thing we should ask ourselves is: are we using that power?

Watch Your Mouth

I’m sure you’ve probably read Luke 10:19, where Jesus says, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

If you read the Bible, you already know that all authority has been given to you in Jesus Name.

But how do you use that power?  You use it the same way God did in Genesis 1 when He said, “Let there be light.”  God framed the world with words (Hebrews 11:3), and that is the same way you frame your world: with your words.

Now, most of us are using our words, all right.  Only we’re using them to say what we have, instead of using them to have what we say!  Romans 4:17 says we’re supposed to be calling “those things which be not as though they were.”

Anybody can say what they have, but it takes spiritual effort to call something into existence that doesn’t “be” yet.  That’s how God used His power, and that’s how we do it too.  There is great power in speaking words of faith in line with God’s Word. What a great power we have available to us!

The other day I heard a minister say, “The devil doesn’t care if you have a Bible in your bookcase.  In fact, he doesn’t even care if you read it.  Why, the devil doesn’t even care if you hide the Word in your heart.  What he does not EVER want you to do is speak it out your mouth.”

Wow, that hit me like a ton of bricks.  This is stuff that we know, but let’s check up on ourselves — are we doing it?  Mark 11:23 really is true: we can have what we say!

It worked in the Old Testament, when the children of Israel said in the wilderness, “We are like grasshoppers; we cannot take the promised land from the giants” (Numbers 13).  And it still works today.

In fact, we do have what we’ve been saying!  How have you been using your power (your words) — for you or against you?  Are there some things you might like to stop saying, and some other things  you might want to start saying?

Say What You Want, Not What You Have

Instead of saying, “I can’t afford it” or “I don’t have enough” how about using your power and calling some things that be not yet: “I always have more than enough” or “God is supplying all my need according to His riches in glory.”

Or instead of letting people know how you feel in your physical body, or what the doctor said, how about saying, “I’m not moved by the evil report; by Jesus’ stripes I’m healed” and “the law of the spirit of life is working in my body even now!”

This kind of talking can encourage your faith.  You can start believing more in what the Word says than in what you see and feel in the natural, and the circumstances will have to start lining up with the words you’re speaking.

Remember, you are the one with the power, but it’s up to you to use it!  Don’t be caught in the trap of saying what you have.  Start using the power God gave you in your words to bring His promises to pass in your life!
