Don’t Lose Your Victory! Winning Decisively Over the Devil’s Counter Attacks
Have you ever heard of someone receiving their healing and then getting sick with the same thing all over again?
Have you ever seen someone win a great financial battle by faith, only to suffer another terrible financial blow a few months or years later?
I have, and I’m sure you have too. And it’s made me aware of something I believe every Christian needs to be vigilant about and prepared for: counter attacks.
By “counter attacks,” I mean those sneaky attacks from the enemy that come against you in an area where you’ve experienced weakness, used your faith to overcome, and won a great victory. Just when you think the battle is over wham! Here comes the attack again.
It’s more common than you think, and it’s nothing to be afraid of. Remember, speaking of the devil: when you spot him, you got him! We don’t have to lose the victory the second time around, we just have to be ready for it.
One Man’s Story
I heard one minister tell the story of a man who was miraculously healed of deafness in a healing service. After several weeks went by, however, one night the man showed up back at church and he was stone deaf again.
What happened? Well, when the minister was told about it, he had a sudden vision from the Lord, and he saw the man the day before, in front of the post office. Even though the man had been completely healed of deafness several weeks before, suddenly the thought came to him, “You know, you can’t hear as well out of that right ear as you could yesterday.”
The man entertained that thought, and after a while he said to himself, “I guess I didn’t get healed.”
When the minister told the man what he had seen in the Spirit, the man said, “How did you know that? That’s exactly what happened! And by the next day, I couldn’t hear anything.”
The man had fallen victim to a counter attack. Thankfully, the minister was able to explain and to pray with him again, and the man’s hearing was restored.
There’s a powerful truth there for you and I. We can’t be surprised when the devil comes back in a previously weak spot to see if we’ll take it back again.
No Fear!
So what do you do when you find yourself hit with a counter attack?
First, be aware. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8). The way we stay vigilant is to stay in the Word, stay prayed up, stay in fellowship with God. Don’t let it slip!
Second, resist! Tell the devil, “No, you may not devour me!” Don’t give up your previous victory! The next verse says, Resist him, steadfast in the faith! James 4:7 says, Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Push against the counter attack with your faith!
Don’t lay down and accept a lie that “you didn’t get it the first time” or that it’s been permanently stolen from you. Remember the devil is a liar everything he tells you is the opposite of the truth.
Third, and perhaps most important of all: don’t be afraid! Fear is probably the first reaction your flesh has when a counter attack comes, but remember that you cannot have fear and faith at the same time. God must have your faith to keep your miracle going.
Too often when a counter attack comes we think, “It took all my faith to win that last victory I don’t think I can face another battle like that.”
That’s fear! And I have news for you...it doesn’t have to be another battle like the first battle. You’ve already won it once! Your faith muscles are stronger than they were the first time. If you’ll resist the devil and keep the Word going into your heart and coming out your mouth, you’ll win again! Follow these steps, stay strong in faith, and you won’t lose your victory!
