In the Old Testament, the Spirit of God lived in a box (the ark of the covenant).  But God said, 'That's not good enough, I have to be closer to my people.'  So in His new covenant, He put His Spirit IN US! — Karen Jensen

Taming Temper Tantrums

Children generally throw tantrums when something isn’t going their way – when they aren’t getting what they want.

So what can we do when that happens, especially in public?

First, let me say it is TOTALLY possible to train a child not to have tantrums.

Their tantrums are not even a plot and conspiracy against you – your child is not trying to drive you crazy by throwing a tantrum. He or she is just waiting for you to make a boundary and keep it there. That means action on your part.

And YOU can do it! It just takes some knowledge, some guts, and some consistency on your part. Let’s start with the knowledge part – what does God’s Word say?

Taking Trips with Kids

Planning a long car trip with the family for your vacation this year? Good for you!

Traveling with small children can be stressful, but the pros of family togetherness far outweigh the cons of having your little one(s)along.

Remember that they don’t like to sit still for long periods of time. Use your knowledge of what they like and what makes them happy, and don’t forget that they’re little, so don't expect them to be perfect passengers, sitting silently and enjoying the view!

Try to let them run off steam whenever possible. Even if they get cranky and fussy, keep your cool and call upon this bag of tricks to help ease the situation and calm them.

Here are some tips: (these can apply on planes, trains, buses, or cars):

5 Scriptures Every Child Should Know

God has given ONE commandment to children. Only one! (I think He did it because He knows kids have a short attention span - lol).

That one commandment is Ephesians 6:1-3, “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother (which is the first commandment with a promise), so that it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the earth.” .

Kids – just like adults – get a vision for their lives from the Word of God. They need to know that their whole goal in life for the first 18 years is pretty simple – obey Mom and Dad. If they do that, things are going to go well with them, and they’re going to live a long time. What a great promise for our children!

This helps us parents, too, to know that training our children to obey is not optional. And we don’t do it just for the peace and quiet, or so we look good having obedient kids.

No, we train them to obey so they'll fulfill that one commandment on their life. They are on the way to a destiny, and it’s our job to help them get there, so things will go well with them and they’ll live a long time.

So that is the #1 scripture your child should know by heart. Here are 4 others:

Sanity for Stay at Home Moms

Staying at home with your little ones is a blessing – and it can also drive you nuts!

I remember when I was home with my boys (who are 17 months apart) when they were young – I was so thankful to be able to do it, but sometimes I felt like my brain was turning to jello!

Here are some ideas to keep things sane for stay-at-home moms:

  • Give yourself a hundred breaks! First of all your body has gone through a lot of effort having a baby – it needs to rest and regain balance! Aside from hormones, you may not be sleeping all night – no one feels like themselves when they’re sleep deprived. Keep in mind that the time period when your children are small is almost exclusively devoted to them – not getting a lot of things done. Even if you don't have a newborn, if, at the end of the day, everyone got clothed, fed, and there was no blood, it was a good day. Don’t make too many demands on yourself or them. (read more)

What Parent's Are Saying

“My four year old son was out of control, to the point where I had to take him out of pre-school and stay home with him. But after just a few days of applying these parenting principles, he has changed dramatically!  Now he listens and obeys, and our home is peaceful – it’s almost miraculous! I am putting him back in school and able to continue with my own schooling.  Thank you so much!”  — F.L.

“My wife and I began putting these principles into practice right away and began to see excellent results. Our children respond very well to our godly way of discipline.  So much better for us. Thank you!”    — M.L.

“I attended one of Karen's seminars and it was far above everything I expected. It has equipped me with information that I needed to properly launch my children into their destinies.” — R.T.

“I have a 2 year old daughter and I didn’t believe in spanking until I watched Parenting With a Purpose and was made to understand the biblical purpose of spanking. Now I get it!  Now my daughter will benefit every day of her life – she’ll be able to fulfill God’s purpose for her life.  My home is now peaceful and calm with a loving and obedient daughter who will grow up obeying God’s Word quickly.”   — T.O.

“I learned SO much from Parenting With a Purpose about God’s view of parenting. I especially learned about correction and why & how to do it.  I can’t imagine waiting until my child is older before taking this course.” — K.H.

“After applying these principles of correction then praying with my son afterwards, he gave me a big hug and looked straight into my eyes and said, ‘I love you, Mom!’ I just melted.  He is 3 and has never expressed this kind of emotion before. I have taken many parenting classes and finally one that works! I now have the skills to help my child obey me so he will obey God." — M.J.

"Our 6-year-old grandson got his first report card at school this Friday.  The teacher had only positive things to say about him.  She said he is affectionate and helpful, both to her and his fellow sutdents.  He is obedient, attentive and a good worker. His big ‘turn around’ from being a rather disobedient and whiny troublemaker began when you came to our city and taught us how to raise children God’s way. My husband and I bought your Parenting With a Purpose CDs and gave them to our daughter.  Since then our grandson has never been the same.  I am so happy.  Thank you so much for coming!"  — L.K.
